For the Love of the River

A local kayaker is giving free tours to educate the public about the city's vision for the Petaluma River.

Not everyone has heard of the Petaluma River Access and Enhancement Plan.

It sounds stuffy and bureaucratic, but it's the city's vision of how to reorient itself toward the Petaluma River and protect it for both commercial and recreational use.

To get the word out about the plan, Susan Starbird, a river enthusiast and volunteer at Petaluma Waterways, has been hosting walking tours of the riverfront that offer stunning views and plenty of information about the project.
