Owl Stalls Traffic During Morning Commute

Bird removed by good samaritan; does not appear to be hurt

A disoriented owl standing in a highway lane stalled the already slow traffic Tuesday morning, as drivers stopped to avoid hitting the bird.

Many drivers on Highway 101 at Petaluma River Bridge began calling CHP to report the owl.

A good samaritan managed to move the owl into his own car, before rescuers arrived on the scene around 8 am.

"My guess is he was chasing a mouse and was so focused he got himself into a little trouble there," said Doris Duncan, executive director of Wildlife Rescue.

"He's not skinny. I don't think he's injured. So, it's very likely we will release him later today," she said.

Doris Duncan rocks! She helps hundreds of animals every year -- usually rescuing them from dangerous places. Glad this story will have a happy ending with a release back into nature.
