Woman Injured in Wednesday Morning Crash

Tractor trailer making a delivery hits sedan; accident closes road for one hour

A woman was injured when a tractor trailer backed into the Volkswagen Jetta she was riding in this morning near Corona Road and Petaluma Boulevard North.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Industrial Avenue  and closed the road for about an hour, Sgt. Ken Savano said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was backing out of a business's driveway and didn't see the Jetta, Savano said.

The tractor-trailer ripped the right fender off of the northbound Jetta, penetrated the windshield and struck the metal pillar between the windshield and the passenger window, Savano said. The woman riding in the Jetta suffered facial injuries from the broken glass and metal.

The driver of the Jetta was not injured and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, Savano said. The female passenger was taken to a hospital. The tractor-trailer driver could be cited for unsafe backing, Savano said.
