Junk King Opens Marin/Sonoma Franchise

Matt Verga worked four years with San Jose Conservation Corps, a non-profit that helps youth through recycling, work experience, and GED study. It’s a great place to start for Junk King’s newest franchisee, whose business will service Marin and Sonoma counties--hauling junk, recycling, and donating useable goods to charity. Verga also has ties to Make a Wish Foundation and California School for the Blind. Matt will team up with his wife, Maggie, a business operations manager at a high tech firm in Silicon Valley, to get the franchise off to a smooth start.

Verga knows the Marin and Sonoma counties well, having spent years in sales in this area. Now, with his own business, he plans on tapping his knowledge of the unique opportunities in a region known for its beauty, affluence, and wine industry. He jumped into the junk business because he shares, “Junk King’s commitment to customer service, recycling, and helping businesses and individuals in a professional manner.”

Junk King, founded in 2005 by two childhood friends, provides junk hauling that is full-service and green. 60% of the material collected by the franchises is recycled or donated to charity. This is especially important in an area where landfills are scarce. (There are at least 14 closed landfills in Marin County.) Add to this the two counties concerns about the environmental impact of both legal and illegal dumping, Junk King should score high points for its green ethics. It’s pretty certain that most citizens in Marin or Sonoma aren’t anxious to set aside more land for garbage.

With Marin County’s recent focus on providing more affordable housing; and vineyard’s and urban land use expanding in Sonoma County, ever-increasing stacks of garbage are nothing but an eyesore. Marin/Sonoma County Junk King, with a recycling rate twice that of the general public, has no intention of adding to the problem.

Says Verga, who wants to make Junk King the hauling/recycling leader in the area, “My ultimate vision is to grow the franchise through referrals by providing the best customer experience, and giving back to the community through charitable services and promotions.”
