The Myles Ahead team traveled on Thursday June 27th to St. Joseph Missouri to compete in The USA Weightlifting National Youth Championships. The event was held at Western Missouri State University's Griffin Sports Complex and summer home of the Kansas City Chiefs NFL football team. And after impressive performances from all members of their youth Olympic Weightlifting Team, the team placed first in the under 13 team competition.

The competition is an elite event for the top youth athletes competing in Olympic style weightlifting. Over 350 youths ages 11 - 17 years qualified and competed in the event. Only small fraction of youth weight lifters make the qualifying totals for this prestigious event held each year. USA weightlifting uses this national event to help establish an elite athlete pool for international weightlifting events and future Olympic competitions.  Each athlete lift 6 lifts; 3 snatch lifts and 3 clean and jerk lifts using the same format used in the Olympics.
