The September 2 reading features two Bay Area poets, Mel  C. Thompson and our own Sonoma County Poet Laureate, Bill Vartnaw.

Mel C. Thompson is a poet, composer and conceptual artist. He is usually associated with the early 90s school of underground poetry often called "The Babarians." He founded Cyborg Productions, Blue Beetle Press and Citi-Voice Magazine, and now runs the MCTP label. You can find our more about Mel’s  work and publishing career at melcthompsonpublishing.com.

Sonoma County Poet Laureate Bill Vartnaw was born and raised in Petaluma.  A veteran of the San Francisco poetry open mic scene, he helped create the Bay Area Poets Coalition's first Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox Festivals & established Taurean Horn Press in 1974.  He returned to Sonoma County in 1998.  His latest chapbook, an anthology, Finnish-American Poetry by Rauhala, Vartnaw & Hagelberg, came out in 2010 by United Finnish Kaleva Brothers and Sisters.

The new series is designed to bring seasoned poets and amateurs together in the interest of mutual enjoyment and celebration of the spoken word. Listeners and poets are invited to attend the free event and bring a poem or two to share during the open mic session. Open mic signups will begin at 6:30. The series will continue on the first Monday of every month into 2014. The café will be open for food and beverages. It is located at 189 H Street in downtown Petaluma. Look for flyers around town and press releases in local and area newspapers and websites.
