St. Vincent Basketball Faces Highs & Lows in League Tournament
The high point of the night of basketball found the Lady Mustangs advancing to the championship game of the NCL II League Playoffs by defeating Upper Lake 44-31. St. Vincent never trailed in the game as they opened with a 14-5 first quarter. The Cougars fought the entire game to close the gap, but were unsuccessful in their attempt. Senior Grace Jennings led the Mustangs in scoring with 15 points. The championship game will be tonight vs. a very scrappy team from Roseland Prep at 6:30 at Lawrence Jones Middle School. The Lady Mustangs are currently 21-6 overall and will await what is expected to be a fairly high seed in the NCS tournament.
The low point of this night came with the men’s basketball team losing a heart breaker to Rincon Valley Christian 56-45. Playing well during their 7 game winning streak, the Mustangs came into this game with high expectations. A recent win vs. the Eagles added to the Mustang’s confidence and this game was as good as advertised. Unfortunately, the Mustangs lost in overtime and finished the season with a 13-14 overall record. They will now await the NCS seeding process as they can be considered a “bubble team”
