St. Vincent Football Loses in 1st Round of NCS Playoffs

The Mustangs lost to Salesian 42-21 on Saturday in the first round of the NCS Div. 5 playoffs. The final score was not indicative of how good the game was played by both teams. The game was back and forth for the greater part of 3 quarters and then Salesian iced it away with a late fourth quarter interception. Salesian was first on the scoreboard with an early touchdown followed by an Mustang score off of a Jack Richardson to Patrick Garcia 53 yd. pass. The second quarter proved to be a tough one on the Mustangs as Salesian scored 17 unanswered points to take a 24-7 lead going into halftime. But the Mustangs stormed back with 2 touchdowns of their own in the third quarter to narrow the score to 32-21. Derek Murphy had a 28 yard run and Garcia scored on another pass by Richardson. Unforturnately, that was all the scoring the Mustangs would find in the game and Salesian pulled away in the fourth quarter with a final "pick six" interception with seconds remaining in the game. This was a thoroughly entertaining game for all who attended and the Mustangs finished the season with a respectable 7-3 overall record.
