St. Vincent HS Announces April Scholar-Athlete of the Month

Meet Senior Rebecca Grant, the Scholar-Athlete for the month of April at St. Vincent High School. During this spring athletic season, Rebecca is being recognized for her commitment and dedication to academics, community, and sport.

Rebecca is the daughter of Amy and Joe Grant of Petaluma and is currently competing on the tennis team for the Mustangs. As a dual sport athlete, she participated on the soccer team in the fall. As captain of the tennis team, Rebecca has enjoyed the leadership qualities that the position of captain must bring. Because tennis can be thought of more as an individual sport, the sense of “team” can get lost. So Rebecca has realized she must be a role model to the rest of the players, and demand as much or more from herself than what she expects from them. Out of that, a “team” concept can emerge.

Rebecca is also a member of the award winning Debate team at St. Vincent and must spend countless hours of prep work and travel for Debate. She says that her Debate experience has been invaluable in helping her establish her own opinions and be able to think things through. She is very proud of her recent accomplishment in Debate, qualifying with her partner Soph. Kylie Clark, for the State Championships.

Adhering to the school motto of “Enter to learn, leave to serve”, Rebecca has currently over 200 hours of community service primarily with the Petaluma Library. Struggling to read when she was in the 1st and 2nd grade prompted her to get involved in helping others to read.

After completing the third quarter of her senior year at St. Vincent, Rebecca currently has a 3.87 cumulative GPA.  Upon graduation in June, she will be attending the University of Denver with a double major in Psychology and Political Science. Rebecca’s dedication to academics, community, and sport at St. Vincent High School has given her a strong base for future success and leadership qualities that will be hard to match.
