Learn "What the Robin Knows" with author Jon Young

As part of the 2012–13 Geography of Hope, Point Reyes Books presents birder, tracker, and naturalist Jon Young. He will give a presentation and lead a nature walk as he unites indigenous knowledge, scientific research, and his four decades of experience to bring participants toward a deeper connection to animals and, in the end, a deeper connection to themselves.

Young’s book, What the Robin Knows, How Birds Reveal the Secrets of the Natural World is a rich narrative that will be of interest not just to birders, but to anyone who wants to feel at home in nature. The study of deep bird language is an ancient discipline, perfected by native peoples the world over. Finally, science is catching up.

Young was mentored from the age of 10 as a naturalist, tracker, and survivalist in a Native American tradition, where he learned how native cultures help their children understand and connect with the natural world. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Pre-registration required at Point Reyes Books or ptreyesbooks.com

Location: Meet at Bear Valley Visitor Center picnic area, Point Reyes National Seashore

Young’s presentation is part of Geography of Hope 2012–13: Practicing the Wild (GOH), an ongoing series of literary and artistic events centering around the theme of the wild—not only in respect to the natural world, but also as an inextricable part of human character and culture.
