Longtime youth football coach Eric Peters recently stepped down from his position and circulated the following letter.
Novato Youth Football & Cheer
Board of Directors
Parents and Players
To Whom It May Concern:
The first year I was part of the program my youngest son Chris played for Novato Pop Warner, which was 17 years ago. After spending that season on the sideline I decided to step up by getting involved in the program and I became the head coach of the Mighty Bees. That was 16 years ago.
When I began my career with Novato Pop Warner Football and Cheer I had a vision, a personal goal. My vision and personal goal was to not only coach these 7, 8 and 9 year olds in football but also to give them life goals. I wanted these boys to learn discipline, respect, and most of all self-confidence. You see the world is made up of everyday players and these young people need to know that their goal in life is — to be the best they can be and become part of the team as a whole. The team is not just an athletic team but the worldly team they will move on with in life. There are only a handful of stars in life and without the everyday players the stars can’t function. This is true in football and in life.
There have been over 500 young people that have played for me over the years. Each child came with his own set of issues and some needed more patience than others. I know I have given them the best I had to give. There are parents of boys who have gone on to college who still thank me for my contribution to their sons.
That all being said please accept this letter as my immediate resignation. It has been a fun ride but it is time for me to retire and move on. My wife and I wish Novato Youth Football & Cheer the best in the future.
