Occupy Petaluma Organizing Foreclosure Awareness Conference This Sunday

Will bring together local religious, nonprofit and government leaders and lending institution representatives

They have officially moved out from Penry Park, but Occupy Petaluma activists are pushing on with their foreclosure work and plan to hold a community conference on the topic this Sunday at .

The conference, which starts at 5pm, will bring together homeowners facing foreclosure, several local business owners and representatives from local lending instituations, including Wells Fargo. The group has also invited local nonprofit and religious organizations, and real estate firms. And they are asking anyone who has had their home foreclosed to share their story.

”If you are a homeowner or renter, Petaluma needs to hear from you," said Tim Nonn, an activist with Occupy Petaluma in a statement. "Join us to explore concrete solutions and prioritize goals that the whole community can unite around...Occupy Petaluma feels that, as responsible citizens, we can't just sit by and watch while so many lives are disrupted and destroyed by impersonal financial mechanisms, especially when it isn't even good for our economy.

, Occupy Petaluma have made foreclosures a key issue, pushing for a holiday moratorium on foreclosures and urging the city to write to Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas asking that he not evict people during the holidays. They have also began contacting residents facing foreclosure to urge them to share their story in an attempt to raise awareness of the issue.
