Petaluma Named Among Most Exciting Cities in America

Petaluma is one of two cities in Northern California on the list.

Those are the kinds of words a real estate blog used to describe towns that aren't big but don't skimp on style. Coming in at No. 34, Petaluma–tied with Le Mesa–made the site's list of the most exciting small cities in America.

The list was made by Movoto.com and takes into account things like nightlife, number of live music venues (the more, the better), number of fast food restaurants (the fewer, the better) and percentage of residents between 20 and 34.

Petaluma scored particularly high in categories measuring live music, nightlife and a low number of fast food restaurants. It didn't fare as well in the percentage of young residents, ranking No. 113.

Movoto.com defined small towns as those with a population between 50,000-60,000

San Rafael was also on the list at No. 11.
