The Petaluma Fire Department opened up its fire station and served up some oysters.
There were oysters galore over at the Petaluma Fire Department's station 1 over the weekend as the firehouse hosted an open house and oyster lunch.
The firefighters served 500 Drakes Bay Oyster Company oysters, says Yannick Phillips, who is working to save the oyster farm.
Drakes Bay Oyster Company's permit expired back in November 2012, and has become involved in a struggle to remain open. Several Petaluma residents gathered at the fire station to eat oysters and support the oyster farm.
