Road Work to Shut Down Part of East Washington

For two nights this week, the westbound lane of East Washington Street will be closed for roadwork.

An ongoing project to remodel the East Washington Street interchange will shut down a part of one of Petaluma's biggest thoroughfares two nights a week, the Road Warrior blog is reporting.

The right westbound lane of East Washington will be closed from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday and again from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday. Then crews will work on the northbound shoulder of Highway 101, cutting trees.

The tree removal is the first step in a project that will upgrade the interchange, putting in a new, straighter southbound on-ramp, a widened northbound off ramp with two lanes instead of one, and four turn lanes instead of two. There will also be a new diagonal on-ramp from westbound East Washington to northbound 101.

Drivers are encouraged to allot extra time and plan accordingly. The new interchange is expected to be completed in 2014.
