Truck Accident Results in at Least $1,000 in Repairs for the City

Delivery truck hit historic fountain while making a turn

The historic water fountain at Western Avenue and Petaluma Boulevard that was knocked off its base by a truck last Saturday has not been damaged, but the accident has resulted in at least $1,000 worth of repairs to the traffic light which took the city three days to finish.

Last Saturday, a truck picking up merchandise from the Petaluma Creamery struck the traffic signal while making a right turn. In the process, a historic water fountain, donated to the city by the Woman's Christian Temperance Movement in 1891, was knocked off its foundation, according to Lt. Tim Lyons, a Petaluma Police Department spokesman.

The driver was determined to be at fault and driving a commercial vehicle that was longer than legally permissible.
