Diversity of Cuba on Display in Painting, Photos and Video

SRJC Cuban Film & Music festival gets jump-start with exhibit at Mahoney Library Gallery in Petaluma

Later this month Santa Rosa Junior College will host a "Cuban Film and Music Festival," at both Santa Rosa and Petaluma campuses, from March 27 – 30. The festival will include films on women, literacy and boxing, and conclude with a jazz concert on March 30. Patch will have more details on these events later this week.

But if you can’t wait for your artistic visit to the Caribbean island nation, the Mahoney Library Gallery in Petaluma is currently featuring work by three artists who have traveled and lived in Cuba. “The Diversity of Cuba: Images of Today” features photographs, paintings, and video art by Cris Gondak, Nelson E. Enriquez Álvarez and Lisette Poole through April 15.

Photographer Cris Gondak has explored lands and peoples over six continents, and has studied with masters Galen Rowell and Freeman Pattersen. The photos she is showing are from a visit to Cuba in 2010.
