Festa della Vendemmia
An annual autumnal harvesting of the ripest, juiciest, most delicious, and savory songs from Italy and France’s musical vineyards. The extensive repertoire includes the feisty work songs, dances, sad romantic tales, and dramatic expressions of abundance, hope, and the changing of the seasons. Featured works include “Tango delle Capinere” (about miners in the American Southwest); the drinking song from Verdi’s La Traviata, “Libiamo”, some wild Neapolitan Tarantellas, seductive, sultry tangos and rumbas, the tambourine-inspired dances of Sicily, and the seasonal French favorites such as “Autumn Leaves”, the frenetic carousel of late summer “La Carousel de Mille Temps”, and the love-lost ballads of Paris and Rome.
