Singing the Cowboy Blues

Scott Gerber, the singing cowboy, performs Saturday at the Petaluma Regional Library, telling stories of Petaluma's early days and life on the ranch

On Saturday, singing cowboy Scott Gerber will give a free concert at the Petaluma Regional Library, singing stories about Petaluma’s chicken-town roots, the struggles of farm folk and even a Yiddish song or two.

Gerber, 53, grew up on a goose ranch in Sebastopol and now works on a beef cattle ranch on Sonoma Mountain. He's also been playing rhythm guitar and singing since he was a teen.

“I like to tell the stories about rural Sonoma County, about what was here before it got all built up,” says Gerber who will be performing numerous Woodie Guthrie songs on Saturday. “It’s nice for people to know the heritage of the area and the struggles of farm life.”

Gerber performs at 2pm at the Petaluma Regional Library located at 100 Fairgrounds Dr. Free.
