From seed sowing and a Treasure Hunt to craft mania, we've got you covered this weekend

Friday:  

Grow your own vegetable seedlings. Learn how to grow better quality vegetables, save money, and nurture the right varieties for this area at the right time of year. This is a great time to begin. Find out a fail-safe seed starting method. The Petaluma Bounty Community Farm will provide media (seed-starting “soil”). Bring your own seeds and containers.

If you go: Cost is $20 per person for materials and instruction (sliding scale, no one is turned away for lack of funds) or $35 for this class and Class II: Garden Management taking place on August 28. Friday:

The feature film this week is Pixar’s wonderful animation, Cars. The musical guest this week is Clean Slate. In addition to the free movie, there will be a Classic Car & Hot Rod Show, children's activities including a bouncy house and face painting, a barbecue, movie snacks and raffle prizes.

If you go: The free event begins at 6:30 pm with the movie beginning at dusk in  320N. McDowell Boulevard. Don't forget your blankets and chairs.

Friday and Saturday:

In light of massive budget cuts, which have resulted in reduced hours, our libraries need us more than ever! Stop by the for the Friends of the Library book sale and pick through the great deals. Don't miss their bag sale on August 20th either.

If you go: The book sale started on Tuesday but there’s still time to find some fantastic deals on books as new books are added daily.  Friday’s sale is from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday’s sale is from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. with all books half-price. Between 3:10-5p.m. it’s the bag sale.  One full bag will only set you back $2. 

Saturday:   

Put on those thinking caps and running shoes because the Great Petaluma Treasure Hunt is back for its third year! The Petaluma Downtown Association has teamed up with Mastermind Treasure Hunts for an afternoon of outdoor adventure and problem-solving to benefit the Butter & Egg Days Parade, one of the community’s most loved events.

Prepare yourself for an action packed afternoon! Put together a team of four of your smartest and fastest friends or family members and meet in Theatre Square. In order to win the glory, and bragging rights, your team will have to pool their collective brainpower to solve fun and challenging clues. 

Fabulous first, second and third place prizes await those clever teams that solve the most clues in the fastest time. Costumes will not only be allowed but awarded!  Creativity is the key here, and prizes will be awarded to the best Butter and Egg themed team costumes and the best team name!  

If you go: This is an all-ages event so bring your friends and family.  Tickets are $25 the day of the event and signups start at 1 pm (cash or checks only) with the hunt starting promptly at 2-5 pm in Theatre Square, 151 Petaluma Blvd South.

Sunday:

Local crafters converge on the this Sunday so warm up your glue guns, put on your aprons and get ready for a real hootenany! The Petaluma Craft Mafia is back with their 4th annual Craftaluma Craft Show, complete with local talent and fantastic craft wares for sale! Come on by and check out the music, food and fun; not to mention raffle prizes that will make this event one heck of a highfalutin good time.

If you go: This free event is from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. at outdoors at the Petaluma Arts Center, 230 Lakeville Street.

Sunday: “

Please join fellow book lovers for a delightful afternoon of eating, drinking and conversation with two popular authors benefitting the Sonoma County Book Festival. Biographer Anne Zimmerman of San Francisco comes to Mimi Luebbermann's Windrush Farm to share the most colorful years and personal stories behind M.F.K. Fisher's beloved gastronomical writings. Fisher, who lived the last part of her life in Glen Ellen, became both a culinary icon and pioneer food writer. Zimmerman will be in conversation with Sonoma County author and newspaper columnist Michele Anna Jordan, a friend of Fisher's.

If you go: Tickets are $40 and children 12 and under are free.  Tickets can be bought by clicking here or by contacting J.J.Wilson at 707-795-9028. The event is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Windrush Farm, 2263 Chileno Valley Road.
