Three Great Festivals Vie For Your Attention This Weekend

Get out the sunscreen. This weekend is all about outdoor fun.

I hope you like crowds because this weekend there will a lot of them in our little town. If not, we also have several ideas for you.

Saturday is the Butter and Egg Day Parade, one of Petaluma’s largest events of the year, drawing an estimated 25,000 people from all over the Bay Area.

Starting 10am, there will be the fun and wacky cow chip throwing contest, followed by Cutest Chick contest. And of course, there are always great vendors, food and music. Entertainment and beer gardens go on until 5pm. Attendees are encouraged to walk to the event or ride their bikes and alet bicycle parking will be available.

If you want something mellower, stop by the Evermay Garden Center this Saturday to learn all about growing tomatoes in the Petaluma climate. 1pm. Free.

Sunday the Spring Antique Fair gets going at Fourth and Kentucky, with deals on estate jewelry, linens, art, books and furniture from over 180 dealers. If you want to augment the experience, sign up for the Masons’ breakfast in the their exquisite dining room during the morning of the show for just $8.

Feel like getting out of town? Head west to Bodega Bay for their annual Fisherman’s Festival, which originated as a celebration of the start of the salmon fishing season and the annual Blessing of the Fleet. On Saturday, there will be a wooden boat challenge where participating teams build a vessel and then compete in a boat race. Also food, music, children’s arts and crafts.
