Weekend Planner July 29-31

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Check out some of the things on the Petaluma Calendar and see if there's something for you.

Friday-Sunday:

is having a grand opening featuring seven talented local artists. The weekend celebrations continue with a singer/songwriter night of music on Saturday that includes Sunday night brings Petaluma Readers Theater's production of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." 

If you go: Friday night’s celebration is free, while there is a suggested $5 donation for Saturday and Sunday’s events. Friday and Saturday’s hours are 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. while Sunday’s production “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” begins at 7:30 p.m. at Clear Heart Gallery, 368-B Petaluma Blvd. North.

Friday:

Another great summer night with an outdoor movie. Tonight there’s a special screening of “Rio” a week before release to the public in DLP Digital Cinema.

In addition to the free movie, there is a bouncy house, face painting for the kids, and games (yup, all free), barbecue, movie snacks and raffle prizes. Plus the wonderful sponsors bring out a surprise dessert for all. How great is that?

If you go: The free event begins at 6:30 pm with the movie beginning at dusk in , 320 N. McDowell Boulevard. Don't forget your blankets and chairs!

Friday-Sunday:

Young Repertory Company presents Shakespeare’s timeless classic tale about love and passion. Staged with an all teen cast, this fast-paced modern interpretation of the play focuses on the excitement of the language and while the language remains Shakespearean, the play is abridged for length. Perfect for all ages, especially those new to the Bard, so come on over and support these wonderful young actors.

If you go: Tickets are $10 and can be bought here. Friday and Saturday curtain time is 7:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday matinee shows starting at 2 pm.  is located at 3333 Petaluma Blvd North.

Saturday:

The 2nd Annual Rivertown Revival, returning on Saturday is a local, arts-based community festival that highlights the Petaluma River and all the amazing artists who call Sonoma County home. The event includes an art boat race and parade, floating art barges and an all-day festival, which includes local music, art, food and drink and over 40 fabulous local vendors. The Rivertown Revival is sure to be 2011′s most unique and creative summer festival!

If you go: This free event is from 11 am to 7 pm. Limited parking is available in lots at Copeland and D streets. Parking is $10 per car, with all proceeds benefiting the River Heritage Center. The event is in various areas of the 9-acre McNear Peninsula along the Petaluma River. Click here for a map.

Saturday:

Join the amazing, incredible after party at Petaluma’s Mystic Theater. Three bands that include El Radio Fantastique, Brothers Horse, and Malarkey will play,  there will be variety skits, circus stunts and ANTIC ATTRACTIONS! Don’t miss this epic ending to an incredible day. This show is for 21+.

If you go: Tickets are $12-$15 and available in advance at Ticket Web.  Doors open at 8 pm. With the show beginning at 9 p.m. at Mystic Theater, 23 Petaluma Blvd. N, in Petaluma.

Sunday:

Come learn about tree care at the Petaluma Bounty Farm.  Learn how to control tree height, promote health, fruit pruning, control disease and pests and more. The workshop is taught by Ellen Solomon, certified Arborist.

If you go: the cost is $20 per person and includes materials and instruction (please bring your own tools). Call 776-0805 or email workshops@petalumabounty.org to reserve your space.  The workshop is from 1 pm to 3 pm at , 55 Shasta Ave in Petaluma.
