With wit, style, and exacting research, Stewart has uncovered the most terrifying and titillating stories of bugs gone wild. Intricate and strangely beautiful etchings and drawings by Briony Morrow-Cribbs capture diabolical bugs of all shapes and sizes in this mixture of history, science, murder, and intrigue that begins—but doesn’t end—in your own backyard.

Come light up the night in celebration and support of the . Sample wine from top Sonoma and Napa wineries, nibble on tasty cuisine, listen to stolling musicians and bid on silent auction offerings. Festive attire encouraged.

The Kepler Mission began its science observations just under two years ago on May 12, 2009, initiating NASA’s first search for Earth-like planets. Initial results and light curves from Kepler are simply breath-taking, including confirmation of the first unquestionable rocky planet, Kepler-10b, and Kepler-11b, a system of 6 transiting planets orbiting one Sun-like star.

Dr. Jenkins will discuss how much we’ve learned over the 24 months about the instrument and the stars and will present sound clips based on Kepler observations that allow us to hear acoustic waves trapped inside stellar atmospheres that modulate the intensity of the light from these stars.

If you go:  Admission is $10 General/$8 Members, Children under 12, free and includes admission to the BEYOND exhibit.  The discussion begins at  3 p.m. but get there early to check out the exhibit.  The is at 20 4th St. in Petaluma.

Sunday:

Petaluma's Small Craft Center is inviting the public to try canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, and standup paddleboards during its annual free "Day On The River.” Attendees will get a chance to receive free rowing and paddling instruction and the opportunity to try an eight-oared rowing shell, a six-person outrigger canoe, and other human-powered watercraft including kayaks and traditional rowboats, as well as stand-up paddling and pedal boats.

Land activities include informational displays about boating organizations and the Petaluma River, live acoustic string music featuring the Petalukes and sudden poetry by Voice of The River, a project of Petaluma Water Ways.
