Fundemonium Moving to Rohnert Park; Launches Crowd-Funding for Improvements

Announcement release from Fundemonium:

Fundemonium owners Steven and Jean Elliott announce that they are moving their hobby, game, and toy store this August to 579 Rohnert Park Expressway, and the new store will more than double the size of the current location.

For 10 years, Steven and Jean have operated their hobby, game, and toy store in Petaluma.

Along with being Sonoma County's most comprehensive hobby, game, and toy source, a unique feature of their business has been a commitment to community support and in-store activity.

“People thought I was crazy when I proposed setting aside 700 square feet of a 6,500 square foot store for general activities,” said Steven, “but it has made all the difference.”

Instead of being just a place where you buy things and leave, Fundemonium invites you to stay and participate in activites like club meetings, game tournaments, and building days.

Fundemonium also offers free use of their activity space, called the Wonderground, to community groups like 4-H, Cub Scouts, and hobby clubs to hold meetings and classes.

Moving to Rohnert Park will allow Fundemonium to expand to 14,000 square feet and most of the new space will be dedicated to Wonderground activities.

“Before we could only host one event at a time, we would have to turn away a birthday party because of a game tournament, or cancel game play to host a club meeting. Now we will be able to host multiple events simultaneously,” said Jean.

The Elliotts realize that moving their popular store to a new location and taking on a much larger space poses a significant risk.

To cover expenses they have saved funds from the store, invested their own savings, negotiated a construction allowance with their landlord, and applied for a small business loan.

They have also taken the unique step of launching a crowd-funding campaign on IndieGoGo to fund improved features for the Wonderground.

“Launching a crowd funding campaign on IndieGoGo allows our supporters to have some ownership in the launch of our new store,” say the Elliotts.

Every dollar raised will go toward improvements in the store.

Steven Elliott said in summary, “Even though we are taking a huge risk by moving and expanding the store, I believe this will be worthwhile. Our new location and size will allow us to serve many more people in Sonoma County and become a true destination spot.”
