Celsius 44 Expansion Starts Next Week

Will add 16 new homes to downtown neighborhood

Construction of 16 townhomes at First and G Streets, delayed for more than two years because of the economy, will resume next week.

The Celsius 44 development, known for its bright colors and live-work loft design just steps from the Theater District, was originally built in 2008. But the fourth building was put on hold in 2009 after the previous developer, St. James Properties, asked for an extension after having a difficult time securing financing for the project.

More than three years went by, with the plot of land sitting vacant as the neighborhood around it hummed with activity. But this month the project was purchased by Advanced Building Solution, a Petaluma-based developer.

Work is expected to start next week and continue until the end of the year, according to company CEO Seth Nobmann.

The homes will be between 1,500 and 2,000 square feet each and have two to three bedrooms. Some of the lofts will be two-stories tall, while others three, according to Nobmann. Units are still available and go on sale this July. For more info, visit Celsius44.com
