Special Town Hall Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Next Police Chief

City hopes to make a selection by summer of 2012

The city will hold a special town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 6, to get input on what residents wants to see in the next police chief.

Over the last month, the city has hired an executive search firm, Bob Murray and Associates of Roseville, to conduct recruitment of a permanent chief and hopes to make a selection by this summer.

Currently, Danny Fish is Petaluma’s interim police chief, a position he has held since Chief Steve Hood left in 2008 to work for a counterterrorism unit of the Army.

The city has posted an online survey, asking the public about the most pressing public safety issues facing Petaluma as well as what characteristics they’d like to see in the next chief. Through the survey and the town hall meeting, the city manager will select one or two residents to be part of the hiring panel, which will conduct interviews with candidates.

The special town hall meeting will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, March 6, at City Hall, 11 English Street.
