Mark Your Cycling Calendars: National Bike Month is Here

Bike to Work Day and a Sunday "chicks" ride mark a month of two-wheeled fun.

Sonoma County is full of some of the fittest, greenest, nature lovers in the country. So it makes sense that residents would ring in a holiday like National Bike Month — which, yes, is this May — with fanfare.

To mark the cycling celebration, and encourage would-be cyclists to dust of their two-wheelers, the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition has organized a roster of events.

So, read on and mark your calendars.

"Team Bike Challenge, helps people get the true message of Bike Month and Bike to Work Day," says Sandra Lupien, Outreach Director at Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, "Riding your bike to work, the store, to your favorite café, is not only very possible, it makes you feel great, helps you save money, and it's fun!"

Late to the game? According to Lupien you can still register through the end of this week.

Bike to Work Day

The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition will ring in May 10 with "Bike to Work Day," a collaborative event to encourage cyclists to commute en mass.

In collaboration with dozens of partners the Coalition organizes energizer stations for bikers during the regular commute from 6-9 a.m.

Sonoma has four so far, including stops at MacArthur Place, and an 'after work' happy hour party at the – bike not optional. (Check out a google map of the Energizer Stations here.)

There are 28 stations throughout the county; they'll distribute coffee, snacks and prize packs.

Make sure to register for Bike to Work Day online at www.youcanbikethere.com. If you pledge to try riding for transportation even once in May, you’ll be registered to win great prizes, including a new bike!

Biker Chick? Join the All Woman Ride
