Petaluma's Weekend Planner, Jan. 26-29

Crab feeds, Readers Theater, jam bands and an Occupy event head the calendar of local events this weekend.

Thursday, Jan 26: YA author for a reading today at 3 p.m. She’s the writer of many books, including her recent "Shine" and "Oopsy Daisy: A Flower Power Book." It’s free.

Friday, Jan. 27:   is digging into Howard Zinn’s alt-history classic with A People’s History of the United States with “Rebel Voices,”  dramatic readings from historical and contemporary personages with individual slant on collective events. It’s at Clear Heart Gallery, both

For fans of a different sort, Melvin Seals and the JGB play tonight, Seals being the organist with the Jerry Garcia Band for many years. It's sure to be good times, especially with latter-day jam band The Thugz opening. Might as well. Tickets $26, showtime 8:30, tickets here.

Saturday, Jan. 28: This is a big weekend for crab feeds, as noted. Two are this Saturday, one a grown-up party for at 5:30 ($40) and one for all ages, 6:00 at the Boy Scouts Troop 9 ($40 or $20 if you don't want the crab).

Also Saturday, you can along with Occupy Petaluma and the Petaluma Progressives. It’s again at Washington St. and Petaluma Blvd, for one hour beginning at noon. Bring your own signs or use theirs.

Sunday, Jan. 29: Petaluma Live! puts on a at Petaluma United Methodist on Sunday at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $10 to hear local musician-songwriters like Tyler Allen, Tessa McClary, and Christopher Reamer; funds benefit Committee on the Shelterless (COTS). This is the first of a planned series of Songwriters Stages, say the organizers; the next should come in April.
