Rivertown Revival Regales Petaluma Residents

The fourth annual Rivertown Revival went off without a hitch on Saturday giving festival goers a chance to revel in the beauty of the Petaluma River.

Entering its fourth year, the Rivertown Revival has become a beloved event amongst the community in Petaluma.

Thousands gathered on Saturday at Steamer Landing Park to experience a multitude of engaging exhibitions such as the $5 wedding ceremonies, music performances and art boat races on the Petaluma River.

“It’s fun to see everyone dressed up and having fun here,” said Kelin Backman, festival captain for the Rivertown Revival. “It’s great to have people supporting our local businesses and dancing to the great music playing.”

While several people were enthralled with the festival activities, many others tried their best to endure the summer heat, which by last year’s standards was mild.

“Last year we had a temperature of 103 degrees and we were dying,” said Backman. “There have been a lot less medical issues because of the nice breeze that’s happening today.”

Festival coordinators made a great effort to accommodate all guests by providing shade and water to those in need and allowing the festival area to be easily accessible by the handicapped.

The ultimate goal of the festival is to bring the public together to celebrate the heritage of the Petaluma River and act as a major fundraiser for the David Yearsley River Heritage Center.

“When I look around everyone seems to be having a good time,” said Backman. “We want to keep that good vibe happening.”
