Hey Patch readers! Happy Saturday. Between the growing movement to transfer money out of big banks, news that Petaluma is pursuing status and concern over a proposed flood control project, Patch has been busy this week.

Petaluma-based Analytical Sciences is behind a new study that found dangerous chemicals in numerous Johnson & Johnson baby products, including dioxane and quaternium-15, a preservative that releases formaldehyde, according to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a group that monitors beauty products for dangerous ingredients.

Local credit unions are reporting a record number of customers migrating over from big banks. Redwood Credit Union reported 300 new customers in October, including many from Bank of America. The momentum continues today with National Bank Transfer Day, a Facebook campaign that is urging consumers to put money in local credit unions.

Some rural landowners in Petaluma are worried about the county’s proposed flood control project, which they say may take away their land for the work. The county has for years discussed ways to reduce the impacts of floods along the Petaluma River, but says it would not use eminent domain to do the project.

Foreclosures remain a big problem for Petaluma, which has the second highest number of foreclosures in the county, according to RealtyTrac. In September alone, 90 homes were in some state of foreclosure, including 55 on the Eastside.

And finally, Friedman’s Home Improvement is in discussions with the developer of Deer Creek Village on North McDowell, following news that Lowe’s is pulling out of the development. Friedman’s got its start in Petaluma, but left in 1976 after its lease ran out.
