Last week, we asked readers to guess the location of this humble memorial and identify the person it recognized. While numerous people correctly answered that the smoothed stone under a tree as located in the front of City Hall, no one knew who Winifred Du Mont was (numerous people told me that Google searches were not successful.)
Du Mont was the mother of former Petaluma Mayor Helen Putnam, for whom our beloved county park is named and a big lover of nature. Du Mont was born in 1882 in San Francisco and died in Petaluma in 1974.
