Bond to Rebuild Marin Hospital Passes

By Bay City News Service

Measure F, the $394 million, 30-year bond issue to partly finance the rebuilding of Marin General Hospital, appears to have passed, according to figures released late Friday afternoon by the Registrar of Voters Office.

The hospital bond measure got 68.02 percent approval and needed 67.7 percent to pass. It won by a 14,821-vote margin. Voters throughout Marin County were eligible to vote on Measure F except those in Novato and some western areas of the county.

The total cost of the $500-million rebuild includes a 300,000-square-foot hospital replacement building, a 100,000-square-foot ambulatory services building, a 412-space hillside parking structure and a 507-space Bon Air Road parking structure.

Marin General Hospital must comply with the Hospital Facilities Seismic Safety Act by 2030. The healthcare district determined it could not comply with the seismic safety requirements by retrofitting the hospital, and the hospital is too outdated to practice modern hospital patient care.
