How Petaluma Creek Built The Community, a Walking Tour and A Conversation

Join local history
experts John FitzGerald and Skip Sommer in two events in one day, in conjunction with the Petaluma Historical
Museum’s exhibit Changing Courses: The
History And Future Of The Petaluma River
, through August 25.

10:30 a.m. – Meet on the steps of the
Petaluma Historical Museum for a walking tour of the Petaluma River led and
narrated by John FitzGerald.  Free,
donations accepted.


2:00 p.m. – A Conversation with “Fitz” and Skip – John FitzGerald is an expert on the history of the Petaluma River and its importance to the Petaluma Valley.  He uses maps and pictures to help tell the story.  Skip Sommer will talk about the men who came to the area because of the river and used the river to build thetown, the first great ranches and industries.  Some of the people discussed are Vallejo, Donahue, Denman, Mecham, McNear, Wickersham, and Baylis.  There
will be a time for questions and answers. 
Free with museum entrance fee ($4.00 general admission, seniors (62 and
over) $2.00; free for members, children under 12, and veterans).
