Bike Coalition's Annual Century Ride Looking for Superheroes

A century might seem like a long time. It is if you’re talking about years, but in miles it’s only one day – and if you’re riding a bike through Sonoma County, it could possibly be the best day of your life.

The  “I Bike Sonoma County Century” ride, presented by Whole Foods Market  to benefit Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, is set for Saturday, June 22, which gives you just over two weeks to get in shape.

Want some incentive? The reward could be more than just personal and physical satisfaction, but a new Novara road bike from REI. All you have to do is recruit some friends to ride the full 100 miles, or lesser lengths of 65 miles, 35 miles, or the family loop of 18 miles. If you register as a fundraiser “Superhero” the more you sign up above the minimum $250 the better your chances of winning that bike, or lesser prizes.

The routes all start and finish at the Coddingtown Whole Foods Market, and include other Whole Foods in Cotati, Sebastopol, Petaluma, and Sonoma. Anyone who is able to ride any kind of bicycle is can join the fun. As the event website says, This is not a race! The point is rather to get or stay in shape, have fun and support Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition in the process.

“We’ve been working hard to provide an awesome experience for all our riders,” said Gary Helfrich, Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition Executive Director, “We know people ride to enjoy themselves, but since this ride supports our work to make our community a safer, more accessible place to ride, your participation really makes a difference to Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition.”

To register as a Superhero or just to ride, visit www.ibikesonoma.org between now and June 15. Form a team to get your friends and family motivated to join you. The more, the merrier, and the better your chance of earning those prizes.
