Batkid Returning to SF for Fundraiser This Weekend

After winning hearts in San Francisco and beyond last month, "Batkid" is returning to the city this weekend for a Make-A-Wish fundraiser with the Police Department.

Miles Scott, a 5-year-old boy recovering from leukemia, made headlines around the world when Make-A-Wish brought to life his dream to become Batman. On Nov. 15, thousands of people came out to support him as he zipped around San Francisco in a Batmobile for a series of staged crime-fighting events.

On Saturday, Miles will reunite with police Chief Greg Suhr, who played "Commissioner Gordon" on Nov. 15, congratulating the pint-sized hero after he foiled plots by the Riddler and Penguin.

The reunion will be part of Brave the Bay, a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation in which Suhr, police officers and others will do a 5K walk/run, dive into the cold San Francisco Bay, then compete in a cable car pulling contest.

Miles will lead the 5K walk, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Aquatic Park at Jefferson and Hyde streets.

The events seek to raise $75,000 for Make-A-Wish, which grants wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses.

The Scott family also recently established the Batkid Fund to support Make-A-Wish, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center -- all of which helped Miles during his treatment.

The 5-year-old's leukemia is in remission and he ended his chemotherapy treatments in June. Miles lives in Tulelake, a city in Siskiyou County in Northern California.
