Make Room for the New Dairy Princess

This year's new District 3 Dairy Princess, Suzanne Amaral, will be a "goodwill ambassador" for the local dairy industry

Over the weekend, the North Bay Dairy Women put on an event that's little known about to outsiders but which is a pretty big deal in the ag community.

We're talking about the annual Daily Princess Contest and Ball where each year a girl is chosen to be the "goodwill ambassador" for the local dairy industry, speaking at schools, fairs and community events to raise the profile of dairy products.

On Saturday, at the ball held at the Petaluma Veterans' Hall, 17-year-old Suzanne Amaral, a Sonoma resident, was crowned the new Dairy Princess. Amaral is a senior at Sonoma Valley High School and plans to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to study Agricultural Science/Agricultural Education.
