You may be a strong general party member, Independent, or other, but in this country our vote is one of the most important things we can do. Not only for ourselves, but for our entire Nation. As the election for President comes closer and closer, I hear fewer people who really know the different platforms of our candidates.
The importance of being informed, especially during these days of turmoil, has never been so critical. Many people seem removed from the politics of today, their lives seem to move forward, but they seem so disconnected with what our Nation is truly moving towards.
I always encourage high school students I meet, when I am at the different schools, to register to vote. Some are very eager, and some are so vague and somewhat disconnected with the importance of their individual vote. In the end, I always seem to get the feeling that people think their vote cannot change anything. However, without their vote, or with people who just do not imagine their own importance at election time, one wonders what our country will become.
These final weeks of our Presidential election will be very exciting, and filled with endless debates on all sorts of topics. Topics that effect all of us, individually and as a group. Never just think your vote does not count, make it your obligation to be informed and never miss going to your polling place and proudly preparing that ballot.
The vote is one of the most important things we in this democracy have, and never take that lightly. People fight so hard to live in a country with a vote, so never take that part of patriotism and discharge it.
Who will take our Nation forward in the years to follow? That is still to be determined, but if someone you know is not registered, please influence them to do so, and get out their vote. It makes a huge difference for all of us.
