Day on The River will be at Boat/Board Rental Center's Proposed Home!

June 8th is Day on The River, right downtown in the turning basin, and here's why. Because The Floathouse is coming. It's a boat and board (as in stand up paddle board) rental center planned by the nonprofit Petaluma Small Craft Center (PSCC). The Floathouse will rise and fall with our tides, and bring access to the river ("Petaluma's Longest Park") for one and all. No longer will you need to own your own boat to get out and explore the habitat of birds and other wildlife that call the river and its banks home. Petaluma exists as a city because of this tidal slough, and the river belongs to all of us. Day on The River lets us get out on it!
PSCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that's been working for more than a decade towards river access for all. Those summer camps putting kids in kayaks and on SUPs, in outrigger canoes and rowing shells, sailing boats and K-1 (racing kayaks)? They're all run by PSCC. The November Turkey Relays and Mixer, held the day after Thanksgiving at the North Bay Rowing Club docks? PSCC. Fools for The River? River Access Raffle? PSCC. This year's Day on The River ($10 for adults, $0 for kids 12 and under) will finally be held where The Floathouse will float: In the Turning Basin. Neighbors like Dempsey's and TAPS, Paradise Sushi and Baskin Robbins, Everest and Graffiti, Apple Box and Water Street Bistro will all be ready for hungry paddlers and rowers, so I strongly suggest you make a day of it and see Petaluma from the River. It's our river; let's play!
Special thanks go to Clavey Paddlesports, North Bay Rowing Club, PSUP, Santa Rosa's Windtoys, and Mill Valley's Guideboat Company.
