Map: Which Parts of Petaluma Are Earning More?

The map below shows a snapshot across town of the change between 2000 and 2011 in the percentage of people whose incomes are $200,000 or more.

The map above shows a snapshot across town of the change between 2000 and 2011 in the percentage of people whose incomes are $200,000 or more.

It’s about to be tax season and people making a lot of money may be required to pay a little more.

The newest taxes take effect to help offset the cost of Obamacare. People earning more than $200,000, or $250,000 in the case of couples, have to pay an additional 0.9 percent Medicare tax as well as the program’s 2.9 percent payroll tax.

The data in this map is from the United States Census Bureau's 2011 American Community Survey. These values are an estimate for 2011 taking into account 60 months of collected data. You can learn more about the survey here.

Using your cursor, you can hover over any census tract – the geographic region defined by the U.S. Census – and see in the box in the upper right hand corner of the map the change between 2000 and 2011 in the percentage of people whose income is $200,000 or more.
