Joy Weiss, Driver in County Line Accident, Was Newly Engaged

The Petaluma woman and friends were celebrating her engagement, but alcohol unlikely in fatal accident

When Joy Weiss and her three friends went out on Monday evening, it was to celebrate her recent engagement, the Press Democrat reported today. But just after 2 a.m. on the drive home, the party ended when the small truck Weiss was driving lost control and went off the highway near San Antonio Rd., just short of the Sonoma County line in Marin.

Authorities are still investigating the crash, but Weiss’ friends and family said she was proudly, outspokenly sober after four years in recovery and do not believe she would have been drinking prior to the accident.

“She had just really got her life together and was really happy,” said Breanna Capener, a friend from the Seattle area.

Weiss' father Rick Weiss, also interviewed for the article, lives in Marin County, where the young woman worked at the Corte Madera Safeway.

“My daughter was an incredible individual,” Weiss said, “and it’s just sad for everybody, including the families of the other folks who were in the vehicle.”

The three passengers all remain in hospital care. Charan Singh, 29, and Gaurav Saxena, 31, are at  at Santa Rosa Memorial, and Davinder Singh, 21, is at Marin County General Hospital. All are from Petaluma.
