Petaluma Resident: Petition to Save Majestic Endangered Redwood From Development

Written and posted by Barbara J Larson:

The developers of the Avila Ranch Subdivision in Petaluma are going to cut down the gorgeous redwood tree on the Avila property at 511 Sonoma Mountain Parkway.  It is on the City of Petaluma Protected Tree List.

I have lived in the Rainier Ave. quad homes for 27 years.  The Avila Ranch borders the quad homes on our north side.

The trunk is more than 14 feet in diameter (measured 4 feet off the ground).

The tree dominates our skyline and is a revered part of our neighborhood. It is possibly one of the largest redwoods in Petaluma.

The tree is the permanent home of a red tailed hawk family.  We have very few large old trees on the East side of Petaluma and this wonderful tree needs to be preserved.

There is an Avila Ranch Rezone & Subdivision meeting on Monday, July 7, 2014, @ 7: p.m. at City Council Chambers, City Hall of  Petaluma, 11 English St., Petaluma.

Please stop by and view the tree and attend the meeting.  Many voices could possibly save this magnificent tree.
