Frankie is a studio cat. He doesn't play an instrument or run the board: He's simply a feline who chooses to spend his days in a north Napa music studio — no matter what's going on.
"His neutrality is refreshing," says , a longtime rock musician, composer and bandleader who relocated to Napa from New York City with no pets of his own.
Marotta's piano bench is one of Frankie's favorite spots, but as you can see in the photos, the black-and-white American shorthair also enjoys a snooze on the cushion inside the studio kick drum.
Frankie himself is not a name-dropper, but observers note that he only started sleeping in the kick drum after Nashville percussion great Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris, Buddy Miller et. al.) paid Marotta a studio visit that included a drum-cushion adjustment.
Do you have a pet who loves to come to work with you, and accepts whatever's going on? We'd love to hear the story and see a photo!
