18 Arrested During DUI Warrant Sweep

County task force targeting drunk drivers; stepped up enforcement will continue until Jan. 1

A county-wide DUI warrant sweep on Sunday resulted in 18 arrests, part of stepped up patrols throughout the holiday season.

The Avoid the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Force, made up of police agencies throughout the county, began its holiday enforcement on Friday with a checkpoint in Sonoma that arrested 12 people, along with roving patrols that nabbed 16 other drivers.

On Sunday, officers attempted to serve 123 of the outstanding Sonoma County DUI warrants. Of those arrested for a DUI related warrant, 10 were booked into Sonoma County Jail and 8 were released on a citation to appear.

The anti-DUI campaign, called the Winter Mobilization Period began on Friday, December 16th and continues through January 1st, 2012. There have been no alcohol involved fatal collisions reported throughout the county, although one DUI related injury collision was reported Saturday in Santa Rosa.
