2 Washington Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Carrying Pot, Weapons

CHP stops car near Geyserville.

The California Highway Patrol arrested two Washington residents Thursday afternoon after allegedly finding 30 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle.

A CHP K-9 unit officer patrolling southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Canyon Road in Geyserville saw a Dodge truck with tinted front windows around 2:50 p.m.

When the officer stopped the truck, the driver, Luke Crosthwaite, 32, and passenger, Dulce Encinas, 30, both of Republic, Wash., appeared nervous, CHP officer Jon Sloat said.

The officer smelled marijuana, and Crosthwaite said his girlfriend had smoked some marijuana earlier, Sloat said.

A Sonoma County deputy arrived to back up the CHP officer during a search of the truck, Sloat said.

The CHP officer found approximately 30 pounds of marijuana, concentrated cannabis, a loaded rifle in the back seat and a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the center console, Sloat said.

Both men were arrested and Crosthwaite was booked in the Sonoma County jail for possession and transportation of marijuana for sale, having a loaded firearm in a vehicle and possessing a concealed handgun.

Encinas was booked on the drug charges only, Sloat said.
