Expect to see things like this more & more often as California (and individual cities) continue to pass more & more restrictions & laws regarding cigarettes. There is a black market out there that is going to keep growing. That black market will result in crimes like the one in this article. This is just the beginning.

Ok? That makes little sense, they pass more laws to regulate where you can legally smoke, or advertise, leads to more people stealing cigarettes? Had prop 29 passed, then I could see you using that as a reason, but that is dumb too. If tax on cigarettes led to more theft, then NY at $4.35 a pack tax would have a lot more cigarette theft then CA at $0.87 a pack. This is just criminals looking for ways to make money.

People still smoke in Cali??? I thought it was illegal in the whole state!! See, smoking leads to crime. Ban smoking for the whole state. We need more government control over our lives.

As I have said many times in the past, keep raising the prices of cigarettes, and next people will start stealing them, and a black market will ensue. These "big" thefts will start occurring with regularity, and I look for the day when people start knocking over "truck loads" (hijacking), of cigarettes. Raising the price of cigarettes was started to deter minors from buying cigarettes, then they made it against the law for minors to have cigarettes, then they raised the prices even more, but this did not "stop" anything, it caused some people to quit or not take up the habit, but it did not stop it, and never will. The last futile attempt to make cigarettes unattainable was when our glorious leader raised the cigarette federal tax "128 %" right after he took office!! Sorry, but you'll never make people completely quit smoking even if you quit making cigarettes. They'll just start rolling their own! No body has been able to make people quit smoking pot have they?, and that is even "illegal" in this country!

This cracks me up. My family and house were a victim to arson. 5 Counts of attempted murder and over 120k in damage. Plus caught on video surveillance. Cased closed after a short investigation. Maybe Petaluma Patch along with the P.P.D.should have done an article like this asking for the community's help and show a picture of the arsonist. That would have been nice!

I think that showing The Hunger Games in this venue is a mistake. These outdoor family film showingsRead More do attract families, and frequently families with younger children. It would be close to child abuse to permit a younger child to watch this movie. Not so sure it would be a good idea for teens either. I believe that this choice was not well thought out. I hope it can be changed to something that would be beneficial for all ages to see. For example, I recommend a film called "Like Stars on Earth" directed by Aamir Khan. A very moving and thoughtful film.
