Petaluma firefighters rushed to the scene of a major injury accident that closed a portion of Ely Boulevard Tuesday.
At approximately 10:30am, dispatch received a report of two vehicles involved in a collision on Ely Blvd. South at Casa Grande Road. Initial reports said that one vehicle was on its side and that the other was split in half.
When units arrived they found a pick up truck with a driver trapped inside and a small SUV with major damage to the rear of the vehicle.
The driver of the SUV was treated at the scene and released, but the person inside the pickup had to extricated from the truck and rushed to the hospital.
Ely Boulevard South between Casa Grande and Crosscreek was closed Tuesday morning to allow police to respond and investigate the scene. It remained closed at 12:30pm.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
