Alcohol-Fueled Super Bowl Weekend Keeps First Responders Busy

20 DUI arrests in region by CHP alone

An alcohol-fueled Super Bowl weekend had local law enforcement agencies busy.

Twenty people were arrested for driving under the influence, according to the local chapter of the California Highway Patrol, which patrols from Petaluma up to Santa Rosa.

On Sunday night, Petaluma police responded to the parking lot of bar on Washington Street where a woman fell off from the back of a moving motorcycle. Her boyfriend, later identified as 43-year-old Petaluma resident Mark Dickinson, fled the scene, leaving the victim bleeding on the ground, police said.

Dickinson was located at a neighbor’s home and arrested on charges of hit and run, driving under the influence and violating probation for an existing DUI. Police also found that Dickinson did not have a motorcycle license and that his driver’s license was restricted, allowing him only to drive to and from work.

The girlfriend was admitted to an area hospital with a large head laceration and burns to her leg. The injuries are not life threatening. Meanwhile, Dickinson was booked into Sonoma County Jail on a $30,000 bail.

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old Novato man was arrested after punching out a man who refused to buy his beer outside of 7-Eleven Sunday night. He then fled the scene, but was eventually apprehended.

Separately, Adrian Carrillo, 36, of Petaluma lost control of his truck while driving on the northbound 101 off-ramp to Lakeville Hwy, Friday around 10:30pm. When officers arrived on the scene, they noticed signs of intoxication. Carrillo was arrested for DUI, driving on a suspended license and being in violation of probation for a DUI conviction in 2009.
