A Santa Rosa man is recovering after being injured when the big-rig he was driving overturned in unincorporated Sonoma County near Petaluma on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to a report of a big-rig crash in the area of Adobe Road and East Washington Street at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

An investigation indicated that just before the crash, the driver, 46-year-old Martin Pimentel, was driving an unloaded Redwood Empire Disposal truck north on Adobe Road at about 50 mph, according to the CHP.

Pimentel did not initially see the stop sign at the intersection of Adobe Road and East Washington Street, and when he did he slammed on the brakes and the truck skidded, CHP officials said.

It then overturned and hit a stop sign and light pole, CHP investigators said.

Pimentel was transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital to be treated for moderate arm and leg injuries, according to the CHP.
