Authorities Look for Missing SSU Student at Annadel

19-year-old has been missing for more than two weeks

Search and rescue teams are scouring the hills near Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa today after a car belonging to a missing Sonoma State University Student was found there Thursday night, Walnut Creek police Sgt. Tom Cashion said.

The student, 19-year-old James Abriel, was last seen in Walnut Creek on April 21, police said. A friend reported that Abriel, who has family in Orinda and
Walnut Creek, was missing and possibly suicidal, police said.

A handgun also went missing from a Walnut Creek residence and police believe Abriel may have it. Cashion said Abriel left suicide notes at school and in Walnut Creek.

After his white Toyota Camry was found Thursday night near the
park, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office search and rescue team began looking
for him with help from search and rescue teams from Contra Costa, Marin and
Napa counties.

Cashion said teams were searching Annadel State Park, which covers about 5,000 acres, as well as the adjacent Spring Lake Regional Park, with helicopters, dogs and all-terrain vehicles. He estimated that about 65 people were involved in the search.
