Checkpoints Net 15: 2 DUIs, 13 License Violators, Plus 2 Teens Ditched Car & Ran

Results released from Petaluma Police's DUI/driver's license checkpoints on Saturday night.

The  Petaluma Police Department released results today from Saturday night's checkpoint operations for impaired or unlicensed drivers.

Two checkpoints were held from 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday morning, police said.

One was at Lakeville Street near Wilson Street from 6 p.m to to 9 p.m. 
The second checkpoint was set up on East Washington near Lakeville from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m.

The purpose of the checkpoint operation was to raise public awareness about the dangers associated with impaired driving and to take enforcement action against impaired drivers and those driving with a suspended license or no license at all, police said. 
Details released today from Petaluma PD:

The checkpoints reported the following results: 
  • 1,364 vehicles went through the checkpoints 
  • 1,246 drivers screened by officers for signs of DUI and license checks 
  • 60 drivers were directed into nearby parking area for further investigation. 
  • 28 drivers were administered Field Sobriety Tests 
  • 15 drivers arrested. 
  • 2 drivers arrested for DUI 
  • 8 drivers arrested for driving with a suspended license 
  • 5 drivers arrested were for driving without a license 
  • 8 vehicles were towed from the checkpoint 
  • 6 vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

  • Drew Lapp, 39, DUI, Transported to County Jail 
  • Tommy Phommarath, 30 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Jermaine Lewis, 34 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Mario Romo, 33 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Irma Enriquez, 45 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Juvenal Valencia, 27 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Jorge Vargas, 30 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Bernice Gibson, 49 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Donald Head, 50 years, Cited for driving on a suspended license 
  • Alejandro Perez, 30 years, Cited for driving without a license 
  • Aniorea Cruz, 38 years, Cited for driving without a license 
  • Carmen Ramos, 26 years, Cited for driving without a license 
  • Obdullio Rodas-Reyes, 24 years, Cited for driving without a license
  • Two 17-year-old Petaluma residents drove out of the checkpoint and fled from their vehicle. Both juveniles were caught and cited to their parents for resisting arrest. The driver was cited for multiple vehicle code violations.
Funding for these operations has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
